Oregon will become the 19th US state in which the company operates and marks the second launch of the DraftKings sports betting platform this month. Less than a week ago, DraftKings was one of four approved sportsbook operators to go live in New York. Within just 12 hours, the Empire State claimed the top spot for sports betting throughout all regulated US markets.

The partnership with the Oregon Lottery marks the second exclusive lottery agreement for the successful gambling giant. DraftKings partnered with the New Hampshire Lottery to launch mobile sports betting in that state on December 30, 2019.

“DraftKings is thrilled to embark on this journey with the Oregon Lottery as we build out a coast-to-coast presence with our top-rated online sportsbook for these fans to experience ahead of the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl,” said Paul Liberman, co-founder and President of Global Technology and Product at DraftKings.

“The Oregon Lottery shares our innovative spirit as one of the most progressive organizations in the real-money gaming sector, and together, we look forward to delivering the exceptional online sportsbook products that Oregonians have been anticipating.”

Lottery spokesman Matt Shelby previously spoke to US Gaming Review and highlighted the superior player experience, compared to the SBTech platform. The need for fewer third-party providers was one of the main reasons for the switch in platform providers.

The migration process is slated to commence on January 18. Most functionality on the Scoreboard app will be removed after the successful migration. Transaction histories, account information, and the withdraw option will remain available on the previous platform for another six months.

All open bets on Scoreboard accounts will remain active until they are settled.

Customers of the Oregon Lottery will be able to take advantage of the established DraftKings platform and have a multitude of responsible gaming measures at their disposal. This includes built-in tools, such as deposit limits, cooldowns, and other self-restrictions.

DraftKings has supported environmental campaigns in the Beaver State ahead of the launch as well.

In cooperation with the Arbor Day Foundation, DraftKings funded the planting of 1 million trees by Earth Day 2022 on American soil and within nine other international countries. For Oregon specifically, the planting of more than 110,000 trees to aid in fire rehabilitation efforts was funded by the company.

Legal sports betting in Oregon dates back to 1989, starting with wagers on NFL games. However, the law changed in 2007 with the passing of House Bill HB 3466, which ultimately led to the shutdown of the Lottery’s Sports Action platform.

It took more than a decade for the tides to turn once more. The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992 was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 2018. One year later, the Scoreboard app by SBTech was launched in October 2019.
