New York’s mobile sportsbooks had a sharp rebound in July, taking in $214.7 million on $1.88 billion in wagers and lifting their hold to 11.42%, more than twice June’s 5.19%. Handle fell 16.7% from June’s $2.25 billion, but revenue surged 83.5% as the market almost fully reversed the previous month’s slump.

Covers reported that July was the first time New York operators cleared $200 million in gross revenue in any July since mobile betting launched in January 2022. It also said six of the state’s eight online sportsbooks improved from June, with DraftKings again leading the field on a $661.5 million handle and FanDuel posting $86.1 million in revenue on $651.2 million in bets.

RG described the July result as the mirror image of June. In June, New York’s hold collapsed to 5.19%, tax collections were cut by roughly $45 million, and the World Cup group stage had dragged on sportsbook margins; in July, the knockout rounds lifted the hold back to 11.42% and the books recovered what they had lost in the span of four weeks.

The year-on-year comparison was also strong. New York handled $1.40 billion in July 2025 and $1.26 billion in July 2024, meaning July’s handle rose 34.0% from a year earlier, while revenue increased 37.8% from July 2025. Deadspin said July was a record revenue month for New York’s online sportsbooks despite the slower summer schedule.

At the state’s 51% rate, July generated $109.5 million for New York, and education funding from mobile betting rose from $59.6 million in June to $109.3 million in July. Deadspin also noted that the World Cup remained a major factor in betting activity, with Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final helping the house.
