West Virginia now has a ninth online sportsbook, and it’s a familiar face.
Rush Street Interactive (RSI) announced Tuesday that it had launched its BetRivers branded sportsbook in the Mountain State under the land-based license of the Mountaineer Casino. RSI launched BetRivers Casino WV at the Mountaineer in April 2021.
“We expect our BetRivers sportsbook app to be well-received as many West Virginians are now familiar with the BetRivers brand and have come to appreciate and trust our high-quality products and responsive customer service,” said Richard Schwartz CEO of RSI.

Up to 15 Sportsbooks Possible in West Virginia
While BetRivers becomes the ninth online sportsbook in West Virginia, the state could one day have as many as 15, as the state’s gaming regimen allows the five casinos and racetracks in the state to each have three skins.
Two of those five gaming facilities — Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and the private Greenbrier resort — are maxed out, while Mountaineer could still add one skin. Two WV casinos- Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island- could add two more skins.

DraftKings and FanDuel each launched sportsbooks in August 2019 — the former partnered with Hollywood, while the latter operates under the Greenbrier license. BetMGM became Greenbrier’s second sports betting skin in January 2020.
The first skin for Mountaineer was William Hill, which launched in September 2020. It rebranded as Caesars Sportsbook in August 2021. That same month, PointsBet launched the second online sportsbook for Hollywood.
Golden Nugget and Barstool Sportsbook became the third skins for Greenbrier and Hollywood, respectively. Golden Nugget launched in September 2021, while Barstool began taking wagers in November 2021. Betly launched online sportsbooks with Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island in September 2020.

CEO: Data Shows Sports Bettors Also Enjoy Online Table Games
Although there are now nine sportsbooks, only seven online casinos in West Virginia exist.
DraftKings Casino WV became the state’s first online casino in July 2020. BetMGM Casino WV followed suit the next month. In 2021, William Hill (now Caesars) and BetRivers Casino WV launched in April, FanDuel Casino WV started in May, and Golden Nugget launched with Greenbrier in October 2021.
PointsBet Casino WV was the most recent online casino to launch in the state in January 2022.
“Despite launching later than others in the market, [BetRivers’ online casino] platform has already grown to capture a share in the low teens of the state’s online casino market per the West Virginia Lottery Commission and [our] internal estimates,” RSI said.
Last fall, Schwartz said in a podcast that RSI didn’t have an online casino app for iOS download in West Virginia. RSI also had to build a customer database from scratch in the state.
“The fact that we’re growing market share without an iOS app is just mind-boggling because that’s the most important platform,” the CEO said. “We can’t wait to get that product to market.”
Today, Schwartz said RSI is excited to expand its presence in West Virginia.
