Virtual Gaming Worlds has set a staged shutdown for LuckyLand Slots, with Gold Coin purchases ending on 3 August, gameplay ending on 24 August and redemption requests closing on 14 September. Sweeps Coin redemption requests must be submitted before the final cutoff, when access to the platform ends entirely.
VGW said the wind-down will not affect Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Casino or Global Poker. It also said LuckyLand Slots and LuckyLand Casino are separate platforms, despite sharing a brand name, and that player balances will not be transferred between them.
According to CasinoBeats, VGW said it was closing LuckyLand Slots to shift focus toward other brands, including LuckyLand Casino, Chumba Casino, Global Poker and Monopoly Match. The same report said LuckyLand Casino launched in November 2025, when VGW said it was still evaluating its options for LuckyLand Slots.
Sweepsy reported that players had begun receiving notifications ahead of the 3 August start of the phased wind-down. It also said players will not be able to transfer Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins to another VGW platform.
Gaming America said the closure fits a wider retrenchment in the United States, where VGW has withdrawn its dual-currency products from more than ten states over the past two years. The outlet described the move as another sign of pressure on the sweepstakes casino model as states tighten restrictions and legal frameworks become more contested.
The backdrop includes a 17 June complaint filed by Kentucky’s attorney general. The filing names ChumbaCasino.com, Luckylandslots.com, Luckylandcasino.com and Globalpoker.com, and says sweepstakes players use Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins, with Sweeps Coins redeemable at a 1-to-1 U.S. dollar basis for money, cryptocurrency or digital gift cards. It also says the sites offer illegal real-money gambling to Kentucky residents and deprive the state of licensing, taxation and other revenues.
Separately, VGW founder Laurence Escalante stepped down as chief executive and executive chairman on 3 July, with Mats Johnson remaining as interim chief executive while the company looks for a permanent successor.
