PokerStars has revealed the guarantees and schedule for its iconic Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) series running in the US markets this Spring. As previously announced, the SCOOP series runs simultaneously in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey, starting Friday, March 25 — a much earlier slot than usual.

The operator has unveiled the prize money and it offers a combined $4.5 million in guarantees spread over 345 individual tournaments squeezed into 18 days of online poker action.

Pennsylvania, as always is the case, is in front of the pack, promising $2 million for the third installment of its PASCOOP series — the same as seen in the previous two editions. Michiganders will be competing for a $1.5 million MISCOOP festival — half a million down from the inaugural edition while New Jersey players will have a bit smaller $1 million NJSCOOP series — down from $1.2 million in 2021.

PokerStars US SCOOP Comparison

Series 2021 Gtd 2022 Gtd Change
PASCOOP $2,000,000 $2,000,000 -
MISCOOP $2,000,000 $1,500,000 - 25%
NJSCOOP $1,200,000 $1,000,000 - 16.67%

Each SCOOP festival has at least 35 numbered events — with each event split into the usual three tiers: High, mid, and low to suit all types of bankrolls. Players on PokerStars PA and PokerStars MI have 40 events on offer — a total of 120 individual tournaments per state — while players on PokerStars NJ have access to 35 events or 105 tournaments.

The community gets so excited and engaged when SCOOP comes around … to have leaderboards and trophies and all kinds of ranges of events in the US just makes it so much more fun and competitive!Buy-ins across the three series start at $10 but go up to a maximum of $1000 at NJSCOOP and MISCOOP series and $2000 at PASCOOP. The MISCOOP and PASCOOP schedules are quite similar, while the NJSCOOP schedule features fewer events with more expensive buy-ins.

More than two dozen tournaments in each state have been designated as “Championship Trophy” events offering winners of the event an acclaimed SCOOP trophy on top of the cash prize.

Standouts include the two-day $300 Main Event, $50 Mini Main Event, and a $1000 High Roller Main Event, — all of them kicking off on Sunday, April 10.

The Main Event in the PASCOOP series promises the biggest guarantee of all the three with $200,000 while the Main Events in Michigan and New Jersey have guarantees of $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.

Niche events such as HORSE, 8-Game, Razz are also part of the series alongside the popular Hold’em and Omaha variants.

As has become quite common at PokerStars, the series will be accompanied by various promotions including Second Chance Freerolls awarding free tickets, Depositor Freerolls giving away seats to the $300 buy-in Main, and special Spin & Go’s.

PokerStars USA SCOOP 2022 Overview

Series Tournaments Guarantees Avg Gtd/ Event $300 buy-in Main Event Gtd
PASCOOP 120 $2,000,000 $16,667 $200,000
MISCOOP 120 $1,500,000 $12,500 $150,000
NJSCOOP 105 $1,000,000 $9524 $100,000

“It’s so exciting to see more SCOOP events than ever on the PokerStars calendar for this year’s Spring Championship,” said PokerStars USA ambassador Jennifer Shahade in a press release. “The community gets so excited and engaged when SCOOP comes around and it’s always been perceived as being one of the most prestigious online tournaments around the world, so to have leaderboards and trophies and all kinds of ranges of events in the US just makes it so much more fun and competitive!”

The series will run concurrently in each of the three states with no shared prize pools and players will be competing within the state. However, this could change by 2023 as Michigan and even Pennsylvania are expected to join the existing Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which would allow operators to connect their player pools with other states that are part of the pact.

Currently, only three states have joined the compact — New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware. WSOP is the only network to take advantage of this pact thus far.

If Michigan or Pennsylvania join the pact, PokerStars would be able to combine its three networks into one larger PokerStars USA. The operator would then, no doubt, run a USASCOOP festival that could very well be one of the largest online tournament series in the US regulated market.

Last year, the three state-specific US SCOOPs were a huge success, having paid out total prize money of $6.2 million. The three series attracted more than 113,000 in total entries across 406 tournaments. PokerStars USA will be hoping to repeat last year’s success and even break more records in the upcoming edition of SCOOP.
